The countries across the gulf had no reason to fear a revolutionary wave coming from the downfall of the Shah, you're kinda missing something big over here.. the GCC united after the Shah already fell by a couple of years - or rather, after an Islamic Republic was created out of it.. moreover, after the Iraq-Iran war. (By a year.) These factors pretty much sum it up; the Islamic Republic was created, and the gulf feared the Islamic republic (for good reasons at the time) - Not the downfall of the Shah. The gulf supported a war against the Islamic republic (Iran-Iraq war, largely funded by Kuwait)and ever since this war erupted, the gulf (and Iraq) were at a war with the biggest military forces in the Middle East; leading them to feel compelled to keep their own military power and economies in-tact. Unity was the best way, since all Gulf countries were up in a war against Iran - Financially (Bahrain, UAE, Kuwait) and by military (Iraq).

Iraq was of course later sacked out of the GCC when it attacked Kuwait (do its bankruptcy), and it marked the second unity of the GCC since its formation.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8391958287808959571.post-74124631489999509972011-04-05T18:59:07.096+03:002011-04-05T18:59:07.096+03:00Thanks.
