The Feb 14th people have already attempted to protest U.S. policy toward Bahrain outside the American Embassy (way back in summer), and the security forces blocked off all of Zinj to prevent them. So what else can they do to voice their displeasure other than burn a few flags? Somehow I doubt the U.S. Ambassador is available for a meeting.Justin Genglerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07926253352423304711noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8391958287808959571.post-12886340416840237332012-01-03T00:40:22.571+03:002012-01-03T00:40:22.571+03:00@Justin Gengler

Do they have any other outlet through which to express their civic sentiments? The opposition in Bahrain has hardly much more of a say or opportunity to have a say than did the opponents of the Qadhafi regime in Lybia or more recently Al-Asad's detractors in Syria. The mercenary "security" forces rather had it coming: There is only so much continuous teargas, stun grenades, buckshot, ransacking, beatings, torture, maiming and murdering people can take.

Incidentally, if--unlikely though it may seem--the Iranian regime collapses, the entire dynamic of Bahrain will change very quickly. That is a factor to reckon with. The Khalife regime has been very successful mendaciously plugging the Iran angle into the debate. I wonder how a non-Islamic Republic reality would be reacted to by the Bahraini government.Michael Steinernoreply@blogger.com
